Hello Polarians -
You are receiving this email because your child attended the Spring 2018 AASG (Alaska Association of Student Governments) Conference and/or has expressed interest in attending in the future.
We are starting an early look at the logistics for taking a Polaris delegation to Skagway for the Fall 2018 AASG Conference. I know that sounds like a long time away, but with summer fast approaching, we need to have some wheels rolling.
I am working on connecting with other Anchorage delegations and our ASD travel coordinator. I don't believe the exact dates have been sent, but it will be the fourth weekend of September (20-23ish).
Thunder Mountain High School (Juneau) has offered us overnight accommodations as needed. We are tentatively looking at flying into Juneau ($400+/- )and then taking either the ferry ($80+/- and 7 hours one way) or a charter flight ($200 +/- round trip) to Skagway. Conference fees are $130 and include all meals while at the conference. Depending on the size of our delegation, there may be an additional fee to offset administrative coverage for the group.
We are hoping to get creative with fundraising and look at a small scholarship for each delegate. We will also be looking at the possibility of using mileage for tickets and working with other groups to perhaps coordinate discounted rates. Other funding ideas are most certainly welcome!
We have a page on the Polaris website under STUDENTS > OPERATIONAL GROUP > AASG CONFERENCES. I will keep a record of all emails on that page in case others join in later.
If you know for sure that your child will be unable to participate, please let me know and I will remove you from the distribution list. As I have said before, I understand that all these opportunities require significant financial decisions within your families. I never take that lightly and wouldn't take the time away from my own family if I didn't feel is was an experience well worth the time and effort. I also understand it sometimes just doesn't work and that is okay too!
If you have any preliminary questions, please don't hesitate to ask; however, I have more questions myself than answers right now. :)
Wishing you a fabulous week,
Heidi
