What is Parent Forum?
Are you a parent or caregiver of a Polaris student? Welcome! You are already in Parent Forum. Parents who are involved in their child’s school from Kindergarten through High School have kids who are more successful in school. Join your Parent Forum meetings and donate your unique set of skills and interests to make our community great!
The Parent Forum is our parent group. We meet monthly (2nd Wednesday of the month usually) to discuss ways to make Polaris a better place for our children. There are three decision making bodies at Polaris: staff, students and parents. The Parent Forum is one arm of the decision making process.
2016 / 2017 Event Breakdown and Volunteer Needs
Barnes and Noble Book Fair October 15, 2016
This is a one day event held at Barnes and Noble. Typically, we have several tables set up with crafts and face painting, etc. This event can be done with two coordinators. We supply information to families about the event, put together wish lists from teachers, coordinate volunteers for the day of the event to run tables.
Fall Carnival October 28, 2016
Polaris has spoken! The traditional Fall Carnival is on. Come play games, trick-or-treat, and enjoy the haunted maze. Typically, we offer a dinner option for families. In order for this to be successful, we will need several coordinators to work as a team.
Craft Bazaar December 3, 2016
This will be our first craft bazaar. We will open up the school to families and vendors, offer shopping, gift wrapping, door prizes, etc. With this being our first event of this type, we will need lots of help coordinating everything.
Skate with the Aces December 11, 2016
Like our book fairs, this is a simple event. We just advertise to families, if they are interested, they purchase tickets, then we pick them up. The Aces will mention our school’s name during the event, and the kids are invited to skate with the team afterwards. This can be done with a single volunteer.
Candy Cane Potluck December 15, 2016
This event is actually put on by Heidi and Allie's Advisories. Parent Forum helps by advertising the potluck portion of the night, set up tables, and put out the food that families bring in. We also provide clean up after the evening is over.
Book Fair January 21, 2017
See Book Fair listing above.
Family Night at 49th State Brewing February 10, 2017
Family Night takes place at the 49th State Brewing downtown. We will offer food, entertainment, and limited auction items. This is another bigger event that will require multiple coordinators. One of the features we will have at this event is “dine and dash” wall. We will cover a wall with gift cards from restaurants around town, people will pay a fee to pull an envelope containing a gift card.
Skate with the Aces February 19, 2017
See Skate with Aces above.
Pennies for Patients Skate Night February 23, 2017
Each year our school becomes involved in a nonprofit called Pennies for Patients, where we collect change to help kids with cancer. Primarily put on by Nurse Patty, we assist her in putting together a skate night at the Dimond Skateland. We will need help advertising this event to our families.
Spring Carnival April 29, 2017
Like many events, this will be a first time event for the school. We will have booths with games, food, and fun. This is will be a big event for the school, and we will need several coordinators to make it successful.
If you are interested in participating in any of the events as either a volunteer, coordinator, or just have experience that you would like to share, please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org or contact Dannielle Mellor.
