Today Polaris K-12 was represented at the Alaska Society for Technology in Education conference in downtown Anchorage. Teachers, Jenna Baldiviez and Mindi Vogel, along with principal Carol Bartholomew and four students presented our e-portfolio work to a crowded room at The Captain Cook Hotel. Llilli Conlin, kindergarten, Ethan Labio, 3rd grade, Michael Fraczek, 9th, and Hriana Bowie, 10th, led round-table discussions on their learning and experiences with e-portfolios.
This year students across all grade levels presented cutting-edge work we’re doing with electronic portfolios in collaboration with UAA and Digication. Keola Tabisola, Cody Wong, Angel Edwin, Hriana Bowie, Michael Baker, Abbi Seitz, Daniel Fisher, Casi LaBLanc, Nicky Jones, Ethan Holt, Elsa Borjon Dakota Evans, Mia Maruski, and Rowan Tyrell represented our school in two conferences. The first was the AlaskaCAN: The Alaska Postsecondary Access and Completion Network State Conference. Here, we illustrated the role that showcase portfolios can play in accessing career and education opportunities. Students also hosted a presentation where they showcased their portfolios and participated in a round-table discussion for Anchorage school district leaders, the CEO and President of Digication, UAA stakeholders, and a prominent author on e-Portfolio learning. With our work and partnerships, our school is positioned to be a leader and lab school for progressive and alternative assessment strategies that meet the needs of 21st Century learners.
